Sr. Ann Catherine Steffes, CSJ, entered eternal life May 11 at the age of 97.
Anna Steffes was born in Maybee on Jan. 21, 1919, to Frederick and Magdalen (Eby) Steffes.
She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on Sept. 8, 1935, and received the name Sr. Ann Catherine at her reception Aug. 25, 1936. She pronounced first vows Aug. 26, 1938, and final vows Aug. 26, 1941.
Sr. Steffes earned a degree from Nazareth College and taught at St. Benedict, Highland Park; Barbour Hall, Nazareth; St. Mary, Flint, and St. Mary, Charlotte. From 1961-67, Sr. Steffes was principal of St. Pius X School in Grandville, and from 1967-76 she was principal of St. Mary School in Charlotte. From 1976-89, she returned to St. Mary School in Flint. During retirement, Sr. Steffes volunteered at More Academy in Burton and tutored in the Mt. Morris area.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 20 in Holy Family Chapel in Nazareth Center.
