Sr. Sharon McGuire, OP, formerly Sr. Mary Dolores McGuire, died May 17 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 72 and in her 53rd year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. McGuire was born in Detroit to Robert and Jean (Melvin) McGuire. She graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows High School in Farmington and received degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Wayne State University, Barry University in Miami, the University of Miami (Florida) and the University of San Diego.
Sr. McGuire taught elementary education for eight years in Illinois and Indiana, and higher education for eight years at Wayne State University and the University of San Diego. She also taught in Florida and California. Sr. McGuire also ministered for 33 years in nursing service in Sebewaing and Lansing, as well as in Florida and Texas. She taught nursing at Siena Heights University in Adrian for three years and later taught online for Walden University in Minneapolis.
She is survived by three brothers: Michael McGuire of Greenville, S.C., Dr. Joseph McGuire and Timothy McGuire, both of Gaylord.
Rite of Committal (burial) was May 18 in the Congregation Cemetery. Memorial Mass was May 19 in St. Catherine’s Chapel.
